VIII Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem

These women had followed him when he was in Galilee…

There were also women looking on from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of the younger James and of Joses, and Salome. These women had followed him when he was in Galilee and ministered to him. There were also many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem. Mk 15:40-41

These women who had faithfully followed Jesus during his ministry were drawn by their love for Him into this scene of unimaginable horror. They brought emotional gifts of sympathy and concern. And, like women of every age, just by being there, they also brought the gift of presence to One whose suffering they were not otherwise able to ease.

Save us, Savior of the world, for by your cross and resurrection,
You have set us free.
