Justin Wang Service Project

ABVM Student Justin Wang on his service project

Assumption 7th grader Justin Wang gave a very interesting and informative presentation about his experience with Free the Children in Msgr. Crean Hall on Tuesday April 12th, 2011. Justin traveled with his family last summer to Kenya and participated in school building for underprivileged children. Justin will be returning to Kenya this summer for a 3 week Youth trip and will help build more schools. Free the Children is the world’s largest organization of children helping children. Started originally by Craig Keilburger when he himself was only 12 years old in Canada, Free the Children has served underprivileged children in 7 countries around the world. The organization focuses on a program called “Adopt a Village” which helps provide Education, Health Care, Clean Water and Sanitation and Alternative Income for people in these areas.

As a service project for Assumption School, Justin is educating adults and children throughout Pasadena about the Free the Children organization. All parishioners, families and members of the community were invited to attend. Justin will also be hosting a “Kupcakes for Kenya” sale at the parish school in early May. Funds raised will be used to buy medical supplies which Justin and his mother will be taking to the medical clinic in rural Kenya. Anyone interested in donating toward Justin’s trip and/or the medical supplies can contact Justin by email at jldubeu@yahoo.com.

Hats off to you, Justin! We are proud of you!

On Thursday Sept. 29th, 2011, Justin Wang invited Helen Ma, California Youth Programming Coordinator, to present her experience with the Free the Children program to fellow schoolmates in Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary School. Justin went to Kenya this past summer for this very meaningful ministry and he plans on inviting fellow classmates to join him in this stewardship program.

Nov. 30th, 2011

Justin Wang, an 8th grader at Assumption School, started a program to take a vow of silence on November 30th. The students taking part in the program took a vow of silence in solidarity with the millions of children subjected to exploitation, poverty and the denial of their basic rights. Thank you for your advocacy for children, and your powerful witness for justice in our community!
Thank You, Justin Wang!
