Knights News
July 28, 2019 News Update:
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization, with more than 1.7 million members. Founded in 1882 by the Venerable Fr. Michael McGiveny at a time when Catholics were barred from most fraternal societies, there are now 14,000 councils world-wide. Originally serving as a mutual benefit society to working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States, it developed into a fraternal benefit society dedicated to providing charitable services, including war and disaster relief, actively defending Catholicism in various nations, and promoting Catholic education. The Knights have provided over $1 billion in charitable contributions and almost 70 million man hours of volunteer service, in just the last ten years!
Here at Assumption, our council provides volunteer support to our church and school, as well as other local Catholic schools, and also to such organizations as, “Coats for Kids,” Habitat for Humanity, Friends In Deed, and the local Cold Weather Shelter. You may also know us as the sponsor of our school’s annual “Movie Knight,” as an active supporter of “Family Fun Night,” and, of course, from our Knight’s Famous Pancake Breakfast held on the 1st Sunday of most months. We appreciate your support and we hope to see you at the next one in October!
